Bush in Iowa tomorrow! - Be there!

Tue Mar 29, 2005 at 01:23:50 PM PDT

Be there!
Wed, March 30th, Noon, Kirkwood Community College
Call their PR bluff.
Are these "town hall meetings" or carefully screened "GOP love-fests"?

Bush is scheduled to be in Cedar Rapids tomorrow to talk about Social Security reform. He will be at Kirkwood Community Collegeat noon for a forum

If you live in Iowa, why not get tickets?

Let's take Pres. Bush at his word and attempt to engage in a "conversation" with him about Social Security?

[Update] Heres how to get Tickets:
Pickup tickets from Sen Grassley's office until 5 PM on the 29th.
Or at 8 am on the 30th (possibly they will be there until at least 9?)

    Grassley's Senate office:
    Cedar Rapids
206 Federal Bldg (Between 1st and 2nd Ave)
    Enter on 2nd ave
    319-363-6832

Doors to the event (at Kirkland Comm college) open at 10 AM. *you must be seated by 11:30*

  • If they tell you that you cant get them, post who said so, and why.
  • If you do get tickets, show up nicely dressed, with a democratic button and take notes on whether you get in or not.
  • You might consider having your 76 year old republican granny get the tickets and accompany you - just a thought :)

Post other upcoming stops in this diary!

Why is Bush so afraid of Democrats that he won't even talk to us? more info here: Quad-city Times Story

The president is scheduled to stop at noon Wednesday at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, part of a 60-city campaign-style tour..

Before the event, the president is scheduled to do a live radio interview on the Jan Mickelson radio show, which airs in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. does anyone know if you can do call-in here?

At the Cedar Rapids event, the president will speak with about a half-dozen local people. Is this all? He's going all the way to Iowa to meet with 6 pre-selected people? Can anyone else even be there to listen?

    •  Yeah lets get Tickets (none / 0)

I'd love to find out how to get tickets and just bombard them with Liberals...I'd also liuke to find out what demographic or personal info they are collecting.
    •  If I lived in Iowa (4.00 / 2)

I would pretend to be a Repub and then ask some question to the Prez that couldn't be spun or avoided:
"Do you believe in erring on the side of life for death row inmates, Iraqi civilians, or Alaskan caribou?"
"Why do you claim that the current Social Security plan treats blacks unfairly, when African Americans that live past 50 live longer than the average caucasian?"
"Has your marriage been affected by the ones taking place in San Francisco and Massachusetts?"

        Good score!

I am not in Iowa. I am just pissed that Bush managed to weasel his way through my home town a bit ago with barely a murmur.  I tried to get tickets, but couldnt.

So I'm trying to make up for it this way. My town overwhelmingly went for Kerry, But did Bush include just one of us? No. There is something severely wrong here.

He is not on the campaign trail. He won so he should get over it.  I am wondering if he is acually capable of speaking to anyone who has different views than he does.

      •  heres the scoop (none / 0)

        I called Grassley's office.
They say that you can just show up at his Cedar Rapids office to get tickets.

You can pickup tickets from Sen Grassley's office until 5 PM on the 29th.
Or show up at 8 am on the 30th (presumably they will be there until at least 9?)

        Grassley's Senate office:
        Cedar Rapids
206 Federal Bldg (Between 1st and 2nd Ave)
        Enter on 2nd ave Entrance.
        319-363-6832

Doors to the event (at Kirkland Comm college) open at 10 AM.

    •  If you get tickets and attend (none / 0)

Let us know the results.  Those of us in Denver would like to build a broad base of "rejections" and be able to really push this and perhaps file suit.
      •  I am interested in helping (none / 0)

to track this. I was wondering if someone is involved in a group like the PDA, or Moveon, etc... who would be interested in

        - getting the info on how to get tix in advance &
        helping people to get tix
        - tracking if people are rejected

you would think the democratic party would be interested.... I sent a message to the DLC because they had a great article on democrats.org about this, but no response.
