Don't Just Get MAD - Do something!

Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 07:51:31 PM PDT

I see all the great responses to kath25's diary But what are we going to do about it

It was like she read my mind.
I too, will vote for Hillary, but I will not work for her or donate if she wins the primary, and especially if she wins the primary with a skewed superdelegate total.

But I wanted to mention something. We can do something if the primaries are done in our states.  We can do a lot.  We can reach out with letters and calls to our super delegates, the ones in our states, the ones in other states whose campaigns we have donated to, or phone banked for.

Those of us who were Edwards supporters, but changed to Barack, can contact not only undecided super delegates, but also the ones who are still supporting Edwards, (like Brad Miller, a diarist here!)

Or how about the politician you admire most who still has not declared? Al Gore? Jimmy Carter?
Or elected and party officials who understand what netroots support is all about, people we donated to, and supported and helped get elected in 2006, like Howard, Dean, Jim Webb, Ron Klein, Zack Space, Harry Mitchell, etc.

Look here for a list of superdelegates by state and other categories.

Here is a quotation from the comments in kath25's diary:

I voted for "Not One Dime, Not one Minute".  However, I'm afraid that Senator Clinton, should she manage to steal the nomination, would still benefit from some of my efforts.  I will (probably*) continue to work for my local party and candidates, and I would not, for example, refuse to distribute sample ballots if she were mentioned on them or anything of the sort.

*Though if my local supers help throw the nomination to Clinton, I'm done with them

And here is what  I wrote as a comment

I will vote for Hillary if she wins the primary.

But after all she and bill and her surrogates have said and done, after all the trash they have talked and the lies.

I think for me to try to convince anyone else to vote for her would be impossible. Working for her would make me feel ill. I believe in populism, people power, and electing people who are running democratic because of a sense of duty, a higher good, a belief in democracy, and the principle that all (people) are created equal.

I feel physically sick at the idea of attempting to help her, because I would become a big flaming hypocrite.

In the last month I have lost pretty much all respect I had for her before.

Many of us are party activists. Many of us serve as an ATM for party candiates. Many of us know other people who don't read blogs, but feel as we do.  Instead of grousing to each other, we can grouse to our super delegates. We can let them know how we feel. Politely, and without threats, and in our own words, just a simple statement of fact.

If you think you don't know what to say. That is wrong. You do know what to say. You already said it in one of the 900 comments in kath's diary, or  you can take a look at this letter to my state super delegates for inspiration...  But please don't use it verbatim, use your own words, your own thoughts.

Because, in the end, the thing I have come slowly to like about Barack Obama's campaign is that it's supposed to be about people. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's make waves.
